Mesothelioma Prognosis:
Pleural mesothelioma hard to diagnose until it has reached the advanced stages. Therefore the late mesothelioma prognosis makes surgery of this cancer more difficult and sometimes impossible. This essentially means that the survival of a patient is down to when this cancer is diagnosed.
Extrapleural Pneumonectomy:
There is a surgical procedure called "extrapleural pneumonectomy" where the lining of the lung, chest wall, diaphragm and pericardium are removed. Then the pericardium and diaphragm are reconstructed.
For some patients who have most of the mesothelioma removed (stage 2 and 3 patients) through a procedure called: "pleurectomy/decortication", have had a longer life expectancy as a result.
There Are Factors That Influence the Mesothelioma Prognosis:
Current health and age affect the prognosis. So when mesothelioma prognosis is confirmed, doctors determine the stage at which the cancer has spread.
The prognosis for Pleural Mesothelioma patients is not so great if they show the following symptoms...
* Shortness of breath
* Chest pain
* Weight loss
* Low red blood cell count
* Difficulty performing general daily chores
* High blood levels of LDH
* High white blood cell count
According to the American Cancer Society, it's rare for a person (after their mesothelioma prognosis) to live past two years. These are the more serious symptoms where a patient has them all.
After The Mesothelioma Prognosis, What Is The Survival Rate?
In 2006, the survival rate for a person to live five years or more, was 10%. And now this rate is slowly improving. However, there may be a higher survival rate for mesothelioma sufferers who have been newly diagnosed.
Where a person suspects mesothelioma, they should immediately undergo Mesothelioma Prognosis.
So exactly, What Is Mesothelioma?
